Introduction In the 1990's, Hillcrest Cemetery ceased operating as a business and became an abandoned, overgrown site. Families and neighbors came together to help clean up the area, and from those efforts our nonprofit organization was born in 2001. Nearly all maintentance and improvements, other than routine mowing, are provided by volunteers. Donations to HCMA are used for hiring professional lawn care companies for mowing and related tasks. We also take on special projects such as roadway improvements, signage and a planned veterans memorial from time to time. Schedules CLEANUPS We host a volunteer cleanup on the first Saturday of each month from 9am to 2pm. SIGN-UP through Volunteer Match (optional) SIGN-UP through Hands On Atlanta (optional) MEETINGS Our board meetings are open to the public and are held on the 4th Tuesday of most months. DETAILS |
Recent Announcements THIS WINTER'S CLEANUPS will focus on touching up some areas we recently cleaned, including some overgrowth along the south driveway and the back fence near that area. THE VETERANS MEMORIAL Brick Fundraising program is underway, with paving stone-style bricks still available for a $40 special donation. Designs are being developed in conjunction with the local VFW and American Legion and other contributors. HANDS ON ATLANTA DAY on October 6 was a huge success for Hillcrest in our first year of participation with this great event. Nearly 70 volunteers joined us to clear the back fence area where overgrowth was covering about 100 infant graves from the 1950's and 60's. We expected the day would give us a head start on that project, but instead, by noon we were nearing completion!
